In keeping with my theme the last few days of not letting anyone define you or your work – here’s one of my favorite landscape shots. Happens to be about three and a half hours from my house in Vegas.

The simple headshot. It’s funny – but when you have a large Internet following you get pigeon-holed into a description such as “Twitter master” or “Bird Photographer.” But folks I can shoot a simple headshot too. Don’t let people define you. Define yourself by defying their descriptions of you and be who you want to be and photograph what you want to photograph.

This hummingbird photo shows a proper head angle. Sometimes just a quarter turn of the head in the wrong direction can be the difference between a salable and non-salable image.

In this image the bird’s head is looking away from the camera and while many of you would probably be happy to have a great hummingbird shot that is colorful, sharp and fills the screen – it’s not enough. Editors want perfection.
